The Mackay Birth Centre opened in 1994 by the Mackay community for low-risk pregnant women experiencing an uncomplicated pregnancy who wanted a natural birth in a home-like environment.
The Birth Centre is staffed by experienced clinical midwives providing holistic care by a known midwife, empowerment and promotion of natural childbirth.
Your midwife will advocate for the use of natural methods to support labour progression, alleviate discomfort, minimising medical interventions while creating a nurturing environment where women feel empowered to express their needs and preferences freely.
The Birth Centre model of care is currently being provided in a dedicated suite in the Women’s Health Unit as an interim measure. Health Infrastructure Queensland (HIQ) are overseeing the work on the Mackay Birth Centre project and will be working closely with staff, consumers and the Friends of the Birth Centre to co-design an off-site facility.

Appointments: Antenatal appointments for Birth Centre patients are being temporarily held at the Carlyle Community Health Centre.
