With NAIDOC week celebrations being held across the region we are recognising the achievements of one of our own, Malifai Kii.
Mal has been given the chance to advance her skills after winning a scholarship for the 2017 Wal-Meta (Diploma of Government) Leadership Program.
Working as an Administration Officer in the Medical Imaging team, she is one of seven Queensland Health Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees announced as recipients.
Mal said she was humbled to have been given this opportunity by the Queensland Government.
“I feel really privileged because there aren’t many scholarships in Queensland and I have been given one of them,” she said.
“It has also come as a big surprise because I put my application in at the eleventh hour and was still successful.
“The scholarship to do the Diploma of Government is such an exciting opportunity and will open a lot of avenues for me, it’s literally life changing.”
Working and having two small children of her own to look after, Mal is already starting to plan the time she needs to study.
“It will take a bit of scheduling to make sure my study doesn’t affect the time I spend with my one and three year old or work,” she said.
“I work part-time and am already planning to stay back an hour or so a few days a week to fit in my study or even look at working over the weekend.
“Luckily learning is done through a combination of on the job experience and flexible study mode, which is perfect for me to schedule.”
Congratulations again Malifai!
