Just two weeks into the job Mackay Base Hospital registered nurse Grace Reid is already receiving glowing reviews.
Working on the surgical ward, Grace’s professionalism and love of what she does stood out to one particular patient and their family.
Rebekah’s husband recently had a week-long stay in hospital and “the little pocket rocket” Grace was one of the nurses who cared for him.
Grace left such a long-lasting impression on Rebekah and her husband that it prompted them to provide feedback to the hospital.
“Grace did her job professionally, clearly loves what she does and is a perfect example of what a nurse should be,” Rebekah said.
“She professionally cared for her patients, handed over at the end of shift precisely, stayed longer when her shift ended to complete a task, assisted fellow nurses at changeover to support them and kept an eye on patients who needed it.
“She also did tasks that clearly could have been ignored, communicated with patients, offered encouragement without the patient having to ask and had open respect for doctors, her workplace and team.
“Thank you Grace for looking after my husband. Your initiative and passion for your job did not go unnoticed.”
As a nurse, there is nothing more powerful than receiving a thank you from a patient or their family. After five years of nursing Grace says each compliment helps reinforce her decision to work in healthcare.
“It’s a really good feeling and very humbling to get compliments like this from a patient or their family,” Grace said.
“Every day you come to work to do your job to the best of your ability and it is nice to be acknowledged.
“Making such a difference to someone’s time in hospital really justifies why you do the job.”
