Aged care accommodation in Clermont is getting a boost with construction of new aged beds underway at the Multi Purpose Health Service (MPHS).
Mackay Hospital and Health Service Chief Executive Jo Whitehead said the $8.1 million project would improve the quality of the living environment for the residents.
The project is funded by the Department of Health and the Mackay HHS and will put all aged care beds in a single location.
Currently there are 16 residents at Monash Lodge in Monash St and another six residents at the MontCler facility already part of the MPHS.
Ms Whitehead said 18 new rooms with ensuites would be built at Clermont MPHS and four existing rooms renovated and refurbished.
Contractors Paynter Dixon started work in November last year with an estimated completion date in late 2018.
The kitchen is also being refurbished and expected to be complete next month,
“This is a very exciting announcement for the community and will be particularly welcomed by residents, their families and staff,” she said.
“The residents will also benefit from closer access to services at Clermont MPHS, such as allied health, and I’m sure visitors and staff will appreciate the new surrounds.”
Ms Whitehead said Monash Lodge was an ageing facility that would require significant investment to upgrade and improve.
“The Board has considered various options and believes constructing purpose-built accommodation at Clermont MPHS is the best way to enhance the living environment of the residents.
“In coming to this decision we have consulted with Clermont Health Advisory Network Team (CHANT), local community members and other key stakeholders including the Isaac Regional Council to ensure we deliver the best possible outcome for the residents.
“I’d like to thank staff, residents and community members who took the time to give feedback on the plans and who offered valuable suggestions, some of which we have been able to incorporate in the final design,” she said.
The layout of the new facility will be similar to Monash Lodge and will include an all-weather pick up and set down area and a covered walkway.
Monash Lodge is owned by Isaac Regional Council and managed by Mackay HHS.
