Dear community,
I want to update you on all we are doing in response to feedback we have received from women about their obstetrics and gynaecology surgical care.
Once I became aware of the feedback we established a dedicated phone line which is staffed by a senior and experienced midwife.
I then commissioned an external independent review and immediately set about securing the services of two eminent and experienced doctors, who are external to Mackay HHS, to perform this review.
On Friday we announced the name and credentials of an experienced midwife, also external to Mackay HHS, who will be part of the review.
These appointments provide a strong and credible foundation for the review.
We are now consulting with the three reviewers on the draft terms of reference to ensure that these are fit for purpose and I will release them as soon as they are finalised.
It continues to be important for any woman who wishes to provide feedback on their obstetrics and gynaecology surgical care to call our phone line on 4885 6244.
Information gathered on the hotline will feed into the review process immediately and without any delay.
In addition to the triaging of calls to the hotline by the senior midwife, I am personally updated on contacts every day.
I urge any woman who experiences any change in their health since calling the phone line to contact us immediately.
We are committed to supporting those who have come forward. For women who need immediate crisis support, be it physical or psychological, that is being provided and a number of cases have already been referred for specialist review.
We are also working to put further psychological supports and services in place and we expect to be able to announce details on these in coming days.
I will continue to update you all as I can.
Best Wishes
Lisa
