Mackay’s vaccine rollout will get the points this weekend with Mackay Hospital and Health Service launching pop-up vaccination clinic as part of the NRL footy finals.
Chief Executive Lisa Davies Jones said the Friday and Saturday clinics were the perfect opportunity for people to roll up their jersey sleeves, get vaccinated and watch some great footy.
“Every person who gets vaccinated is helping to decrease the spread of COVID-19 and protect their local community,” Ms Davies Jones said.
“It doesn’t matter which football team you back, this is the perfect opportunity to do your part, and tackle COVID-19 head-on.”
The pop-up vaccination clinic would kick-off for walk ins from 3pm to 7pm Friday and Saturday at the Mackay Veterans Support Club opposite BB Print Stadium.
“The clinic will open with plenty of time for people to get vaccinated and then go on to enjoy the usual pre-game celebrations,” she said.
“Look out for the giant inflatable footy and follow the signs.”
Ms Davies Jones said the health service hoped to vaccinate up to 300 people over two days.
Anyone vaccinated at the pop-up clinic will go int the draw to win a signed Manly Sea Eagles and a signed Parramatta Eels jersey.
“I would encourage anyone who wants to be vaccinated to get to the game early, roll up their sleeve and get a jab.
“Every day counts; every single jab is a step closer to where we need to be.”
Local residents affected by alcohol prior to their jab will not be able to be vaccinated on the day.
If you aren’t going to the footy but want a vaccine you can register your interest at www.health.qld.gov.au/vaccinebookings for the opportunity to access the vaccine at established Queensland Health community vaccination locations.
Remember though, Queensland Health vaccination locations are not the only place you can access the COVID-19 vaccine. To find your nearest participating primary care provider, such as GPs, visit the Vaccine Eligibility Checker.
