More than $30 million will be invested by the Queensland Government in a new, purpose-built hospital that will change the way regional services are delivered in Sarina.
The new hospital is funded jointly by a commitment in the 2017/18 State Budget, the Mackay Hospital and Health Service (MHHS) and Queensland Health.
This new facility will mean more people will have access to quality care, closer to home.
A greenfields site in Brewers Rd is under consideration however there’s still some work to be done before a final decision is made and we are working closely with local residents and Mackay Regional Council on this.
This proposed site will also allow opportunities for future expansion to make sure we’re looking after Sarina as it continues to grow.
Several community consultations have been held so far, with two as recently as December 2019.
The health service is committed to listening to the community and taking their views into consideration as we plan this redevelopment.
More consultation is planned in the future and we look forward to entering into this next era of heath care with the Sarina community.
Construction is anticipated to commence late 2021 and be finished by late 2022.
