Visiting hours
You can visit every day between 8 am and 8 pm. Patients can have 2 visitors at a time.
Visiting outside of hours
If you can't get to the hospital during visiting hours, we may be able to arrange another time for you to visit. Talk to the staff in charge of the ward to see what we can do.
The main entrance on Bridge Road is open from 6 am to 9 pm.
If you have approval to visit outside of these hours, use the intercom at the external door on Bridge Road for:
- Women’s Health Unit
- Special Care Unit
- Child and Adolescent Unit.
For all other units, go through the emergency department.

Food and shops
Cafe
The cafe is on the ground floor across from the gift shop. It has indoor and outdoor seating.
The cafe offers hot and cold food and drinks, including fruit, salads, sandwiches and pastries.
Opening hours
- Weekdays: 6:30 am to 4:00 pm
- Saturdays: 6:30 am to 1:30 pm
- Sundays: closed
Vending machines
We have vending machines that sell snacks and drinks:
- at the entrance of the women's and children's outpatient clinic, A block
- at the entrance of the emergency department, E block
- near medical imaging on ground floor, E block
- at the entrance of F0 ward, F block.
Mackay Hospital Foundation gift shop
The gift shop sells flowers, cards, newspapers, magazines, snack foods and drinks. The shop is run by volunteers who can deliver gifts in the hospital.

Mackay Hospital Foundation trolley service
Volunteers visit wards and waiting rooms on weekdays. They sell snacks, drinks, newspapers and toiletries.
Pharmacy
Our pharmacy is on the ground floor in E block. You can only use it for prescriptions issued by the hospital.
Mackay Hospital is expanding
We’re making our hospital bigger and better to help our community get the health care they need.
We'll have 128 new beds, a new hospital wing, a multi-storey car park and an onsite helipad.
The new hospital wing will have wards for medical, children’s health and women’s health, including a new maternity ward and birthing suites.
