Mackay HHS has 274 new positive COVID-19 cases to make a total of 2298 active cases throughout the Mackay, Isaac and Whitsunday local government areas.
Of these 14 are in hospital and 44 are in the virtual ward.
Please note, the definition of active cases has been changed to cases detected in the last seven days based on sample collection/test date.
I would like to remind everyone to get their booster dose. If been four months since your second dose you are eligible for a booster.
There is very clear evidence that a booster gives the best protection against COVID-19.
More than 1300 children aged 5 to 11 years have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine across Mackay HHS vaccination clinics.
The children’s vaccination clinic commenced last Monday 10 January, at the Mackay Showgrounds vaccination hub.
Day one at the Showgrounds clinic was extremely busy with 218 children aged 5 to 11 attending with a parent or guardian to receive their vaccine.
Vaccination of children across some rural sites also started this week, with our vaccination team working hard to finalise all locations in Isaac and the Whitsundays.
Vaccinations are a necessary part of keeping our kids protected from preventable diseases, as well as ensuring we all make it to the other side of the COVID-19 pandemic safely.
Appointments are recommended for children aged 5 to 11 as walk-in capacity is limited, book here at www.vaccinebookings.health.qld.gov.au. An appointment will also help speed up the registration process when children arrive.
The vaccine calendar is here https://www.mackay.health.qld.gov.au/covid19-vaccine/
Remember vaccines are also offered at GPs and pharmacies – find them here https://www.health.gov.au/resources/apps-and-tools/covid-19-vaccine-clinic-finder
Background
The data is a combination of PCR testing done by the Mackay HHS, by private pathology providers and home RAT results people have lodged at https://www.qld.gov.au/rat-positive
