Mackay HHS has 199 new positive COVID-19 cases to make a total of 1912 active cases throughout the Mackay, Isaac and Whitsunday local government areas.
Of these 13 are in hospital and 61 are in the virtual ward.
Sadly, we have reported the death of one person in their 80s who had an underlying medical condition.
On behalf of the health service I would like to extend our sympathy to their family and loved ones.
Outbreaks of COVID-19 have been declared at ten residential aged care facilities in the Mackay Hospital and Health Service.
An outbreak is deemed as one case at a facility.
Our Public Health Unit is continuing to work with facility managers to support their response and to protect the vulnerable residents.
Assistance is being provided with infection management advice and contact tracing.
The community is reminded there are visiting restrictions in place for residential aged care facilities located across Queensland.
Visitors should:
- wash their hands before entering and leaving the facility
- stay 1.5 metres away from others where possible
- stay in the resident’s room, outside or in a specific area (avoiding communal spaces)
- Continue to wear a mask even in the resident’s room
- stay away when unwell
- follow requests from the facility to help keep staff and residents safe.
