Our region

Our region is large and diverse. It stretches from Bowen and the Whitsundays in the north to St Lawrence in the south, and west to Clermont and Collinsville. It’s about the size of Ireland, with a mix of regional and rural areas.

We have 6 hospitals, 2 multipurpose health services and 4 community health facilities. Our team of over 3,700 dedicated staff provide support to around 185,000 people.

Mackay Base Hospital is the referral hospital for our region. It's one of the most modern healthcare facilities in Queensland. Our many specialist departments offer a broad scope for development, and you’ll experience an interesting mix of clinical cases.

Living in the Mackay, Isaac and Whitsunday region

The Mackay, Isaac and Whitsunday region offers a great lifestyle, with coastal and country living combined with the benefits of a growing regional city. Our region is family friendly and welcoming, with cafes, restaurants, bars, fun festivals, and a creative arts scene.

We have Australia’s longest stretch of subtropical rainforest and many beautiful national parks. Another highlight is the Whitsundays, the island chain famous for their clear blue waters, and white sandy beaches.

Our tropical lifestyle gives you the chance to enjoy the outdoors while building a rewarding career. You can slow down and enjoy a simpler pace of life, and for a city fix, Brisbane is only a one hour flight away.
