When you come to hospital for an appointment, you are known as an ‘outpatient’.
Making an appointment
Outpatient appointments are made after referral from your General Practitioner (GP) or for further treatment after being discharged from hospital. Appointment information is then sent to you to confirming date and time.
Changing an appointment
If you are unable to attend your outpatient appointment please call the number on your appointment letter or contact your hospital. This will ensure we are able to offer your appointment to another person on the wait list.
Failure to attend this appointment may result in the removal of your name from the appointment list and your referral being returned to your doctor.
What to bring to your appointment
- Your appointment letter
- Medicare card or private health insurance details
- Concession cards such as Healthcare card or Veterans Affairs card
- Test results
- Any relevant x-rays
- A list of current medications
Arriving at the Outpatient Clinic
We recommend that you arrive approximately 15 minutes before your appointment time. Please check in with the reception staff as soon as you arrive. You will be asked to confirm your contact details and to present your Medicare card and any concession cards.
We recommend that you allocate at least two hours for your appointment as you may be required to visit other departments for tests after your appointment.
Change of contact details
If any of your contact details have changed (address or telephone number) please advise us as soon as possible. It is important to keep your contact details up to date as the majority of appointment notifications are mailed to patients and SMS reminders will be sent to your mobile phone.
After your appointment
At the end of your consultation please ensure you check out at reception. If you require another appointment please consult with the receptionist.
