Mackay HHS has recognised excellence and the service of long-standing staff at its annual reward and recognition event Let’s Celebrate.
Chief Executive Lisa Davies Jones said it was an opportunity to celebrate individuals and teams who live our values of Collaboration, Trust, Respect and Teamwork.
“It’s good to take time to step away from the work environment and acknowledge the people who make up the health service,” she said.
“Our staff are all what makes the Mackay Hospital and Health Service a special place.”
Ms Lisa Davies Jones said the record 149 nominations showed how willing staff were to nominate their peers for recognition.
“At the very core of what we do is how we care for each other and our community.
“Recognising and celebrating each other’s efforts and a simple thank you can be the fuel that keeps us going another day,” she said.

Ms Davies Jones said 2020 was the start of challenging times for healthcare workers around the world.
“Despite the extra work and pressure our values have continued to shine through in all that we do,” she said.
She said COVID0-19 continued to impact the health service with demand for testing, vaccination and public health monitoring ongoing.
“We have been thrown into the spotlight and our world has been turned upside down as we watched the COVID-19 pandemic take over our lives.
“From watching colleagues overseas being overwhelmed on the frontline by COVID-19, to ourselves having to completely change the way we do things and worrying whether the same would happen to us.
“These are just some of the ways we have had to adapt to rapidly changing times. But you still turn up each and every day to care for people in need.
“Thank you for your selfless service during these unpredictable times and for working
so many long, hard hours to keep us safe.
“Thank you for turning up every day to care for your community, and last, but certainly not least, thank you for being there for one and another.

More than 10,000 years of service recognised
A total of 915 staff with length of service ranging from five to 50 years received badges commemorating their commitment to healthcare.
