Infection control – one of our priorities
We maintain strict hygiene standards throughout the hospital to control infection and prevent its spread. Hand-washing is the most effective way to reduce the spread of infection.
How you can help:
- Washing your hands frequently – especially before eating and after going to the toilet
- Using hand gel dispenser – available at the entrance to all wards and in clinical areas
- Wearing slippers when walking around the wards – this keeps your feet clean so that bacteria are not transferred from your feet to the bed
- Not sitting on other patients’ beds – this provides an ideal opportunity for bacteria to spread
- Asking visitors not to come if they are feeling unwell themselves. When they do visit you, please ask them no to sit on your bed.
Your stay at the Mackay Base Hospital
Your room
At the Mackay Base Hospital we have single and shared rooms which accommodate public and private patients. Rooms are allocated on clinical need. Very ill or infectious patients always have priority to single rooms. Your bed allocation may change during your stay.
