A message from CE Jo Whitehead and Incident Commander Paul Welford
The first daylight sit rep from our hospitals shows everyone is safe and continuing to provide care to patients.
All hospitals are very busy so again you are asked not to come in to Emergency unless it is a genuine emergency.
There are no reports of structural damage at Bowen, Collinsville, Proserpine and Sarina hospitals.
Bowen Director of Nursing Julie Minogue reports the power is still on but there are strong gusts and sustained winds now from the south as well as heavy rain. Their widows are boarded and holding up well.
Proserpine Hospital has been on generator power since last night.
We still need as many helping hands in Mackay – if you can safely travel please do so as there are extensive staff deficits.
To those that are unable to make it in for whatever reason we completely understand and hope you and your loved ones are well.
Thanks to all staff who have come to work despite the odds. Some brought family in and others bunkered down for the night.
We are trying to book extra accommodation for staff. Meals are being provided for staff during the cyclone emergency.
No doubt the worst is yet to come but we will get through it together.
