Mackay HHS has activated its Code Green natural disaster planning and has stood up its Emergency Operations Centre (EOC).
The EOC team and Queensland Ambulance Service met on Sunday night to assess the current situation and health resources. EOC will meet again on Monday morning for more forward planning.
Staff messages
- The most important thing is for staff to stay safe. Please present for work as usual if safe to do so. If you cannot attend work please contact your line manager via usual channels. You may be redeployed to work in an area of need within your workplace.
- Mackay Base staff – if you need to bring your children to work due to school cancellations or other reasons you may do so. Limited supervision is available from 6.30am Monday in the Staff Retreat thanks to volunteers from the HR team. A roster has been developed and 24/7 supervision is possible for the next few days. Please send bedding, food and entertainment for your children.
- Emergency accommodation is also available for family members for essential staff – talk to your line manager at your facility for specifics. Pets cannot be accommodated.
- Leave entitlements: in these type of weather events where an employee is prevented from attending their normal place of employment because of floods, cyclonic disturbances or severe storms you may be granted special leave on full pay not deducted from any leave account. Staff are entitled up to five days per year.
- All staff development and training has been cancelled for this week. Check your emails for updates if you have registered for training.
Public messages
- Patient with appointments in the wound dressing clinic at Mackay Base please come in as normal.
- Please keep the Emergency Department for emergencies. We are expecting to be busy with weather-related presentations. If you would like telephone advice for non-urgent matters call 13HEALTH to speak with a registered nurse.
- All elective surgery is cancelled for Monday and Tuesday. Please keep checking this page and our website for updates.
- Appointments in our Specialist Outpatients Department at Mackay Base are cancelled Monday and Tuesday including allied health, antenatal, women’s and children’s clinics.
- Mackay Community Mental Health, BreastScreen, Alcohol and Other Drugs and Carlyle Community Health Centre appointments also cancelled Monday and Tuesday.
- Cannonvale Community Health Centre until further notice as this service is located in a flood zone.
