The new Bowen Hospital Community Reference Group has held its first meeting.
Bruce Hedditch, Melita Jurgens, Gary Martin, Kerry Meir, Sue Murray, Brian Ryle and Michelle Hook have been appointed to the group following an application and interview process.
Director of Nursing Julie Minogue said the first meeting was an opportunity for members to meet and be provided with an overview of the Mackay Hospital and Health Service with a particular focus on Bowen Hospital services.
The purpose of the group is to ensure various perspectives are considered by the health service when planning and delivering services.
“We are pleased these people have nominated to give the Bowen community a voice and to be involved in shaping the future of healthcare in our region,” Julie said.
Mackay Hospital and Health Board Chair Tim Mulheirn, Chief Executive Jo Whitehead, Executive Director of Rural Services Terry Johnson and Consumer and Community Engagement Coordinator Courtney Lord were there to welcome the volunteers.
Julie presented a comprehensive overview on Bowen Hospital services and updated the group on the multi-million dollar redevelopment.
Each meeting will include discussions on hospital activity, consumer feedback, any changes to hospital services, infrastructure updates and other topics members raise.
“Members have been selected on the basis of how well they are able to represent the diversity of the community, as well as their community networks and their healthcare experience either professional or personally.
“Every member of the group is passionate about Bowen healthcare services and I look forward to working with them,” she said
