Mackay Hospital and Health Service (HHS) staff are looking out for each other by learning the skills to support colleagues who experience occupational violence in the workplace. Today 12 employees took part the Peer Support Responders training to learn those skills.
As Peer Support Responders they are now ambassadors for wellbeing and provide support and assistance to peers that are victims of occupational violence. The twelve staff have now undertaken specialised training in psychological first aid and ongoing professional opportunities to help grow peer support networks across the Mackay HHS.
This initiative forms part of the Peer Support Program (PSP) which provides caring, supportive and confidential interventions for staff involved in occupational violence incidents and other potentially traumatic events.
