Opportunities and benefits available for staff to support their career and development

We offer our employees extensive opportunities to learn, grow and experience careers in both clinical and corporate roles. Additional staff benefits include:

Renumeration

We offer attractive remuneration packages, allowances and incentives.

Read more about salary information relating to your specific employment stream on the Queensland Health website.

Superannuation
  • Employer contribution up to 12.75 per cent
  • QSuper is your employer’s nominated super fund and an account will be opened automatically for you when we have received a contribution from your employer.
  • You can choose a fund other than QSuper by completing a form provided to you in your new starter kit and give it to your employer.
Leave

We have several types of leave for our employees including annual, sick, carer, parental, domestic and family violence, career, long service and purchased.

Salary packaging

Salary packaging, or salary sacrifice, is when you and your employer ‘package’ your salary into income and benefits.

How salary packaging works

Salary packaging is when you arrange to receive less income after tax, in return for your employer paying for benefits out of your pre-tax salary. The benefits could be things like a car or a phone.

Fringe benefits

A fringe benefit is something extra you get from your employer, as well as your wage or salary. It’s a ‘payment’ but in a different form to salary or wages. It may also be in return for some of your salary under a salary sacrifice arrangement.

If you’re eligible for the fringe benefit tax (FBT) exemption cap, you can salary package a variety of benefits.

Study benefits and career development

You may be eligible for paid study leave and financial assistance for courses and research relevant to your work.

We also offer training and professional development opportunities including:

  • medical training opportunities
  • nursing and midwifery
  • allied heath
  • Queensland Centre for Mental Health Learning
  • Pathways to Rural and Remote Orientation Training.
Flexible work arrangements

We support a healthy work life balance and offer flexible work arrangements where we can including:

  • job share
  • part time employment
  • variable working hours
  • working from home
  • purchased leave
  • parental leave and other options.
Employee assistance programs

We have an employee assistance program if you need support or counselling. You can call LifeWorks on 1800 604 640 or Converge International on 1300 687 327. Both services are available 24 hours, 7 days per week.
