Mackay Hospital and Health Service has welcomed experienced health professional Susan Gannon as its new Chief Executive.
Ms Gannon comes to Mackay from Hobart where she was Chief Executive Hospitals at Tasmanian Health Services for three years and the Executive Director Operations for three years.
Prior to this she was the State-wide Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery for one year.
Ms Gannon has worked in senior management positions for women’s and children’s services as well as medicine, emergency, cancer and surgical services.
Mackay Hospital and Health Board Administrator Karen Roach said Ms Gannon’s appointment followed a national recruitment process.
“We are delighted to welcome Susan to the team. Her management skills and clinical experience mean she is well placed to provide Mackay HHS with direction it needs,” Ms Roach said.
“Her broad ranging healthcare career within nursing, midwifery, healthcare management and clinical governance will be an asset,” she said.
Ms Roach said interim Chief Executive Dr Charles Pain would return to his position as Chief Medical Officer.
“I would like to thank Charles for leading the health service through this transition period and I know we all value his calm and considered leadership style,” she said.
Ms Gannon said she was thrilled to take on the position and looked forward to becoming part of the HHS community.
She is no stranger to Queensland Health having served as the service director for Women’s, Newborn and Children’s Services at the Gold Coast University Hospital.
In this role she was responsible for strategic and operational planning for maternity, paediatric, gynaecology, neonatology, children’s community health and Breast Screen.
She has been on the Board of Directors for Women’s Health Care Australia since 2014 and has also worked in policy, quality and education in both the public and private sector.
Her qualifications include nursing, midwifery, a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education, Graduate Diploma in Family and Child Health, and working towards a Masters in Health Service Management.
