The Mackay Public Health Unit (MPHU) delivers a range of services by focusing on protecting health, preventing disease, illness and injury; and promoting health and wellbeing as a community rather than individuals.
This is achieved by working collaboratively with and supporting a range of organisations including other health services; other government departments; local governments; non-government agencies and local communities.
The MPHU addresses a diverse and often contrasting range of impacts on public health. Responses to these issues are delivered by staff working in a multidisciplinary team that comprises public health nurses and environmental health officers and administrative staff, assisted by public health physicians, epidemiologists and data officers. The Unit also participates in a state-wide network of project based work coordinated through a number of Compliance Working Groups.
