For case numbers by local government area see Queensland COVID-19 statistics | Health and wellbeing | Queensland Government (www.qld.gov.au)
A total of 724 COVID-19 tests were done by Mackay HHS on 5 January 2022.
The doubling of overnight cases is an alarming, but not unexpected, development for our health service.
We can expect to see numbers continue to grow so it is more important than ever that people restrict their movements.
The true number will be higher as we know some people testing at home and others have a mild illness and are not accessing testing.
This virus is affecting people of all ages. We have had a child under the age of 10 admitted to Mackay Base Hospital as well as pregnant women.
Everyone needs to consider any movement through the community as a risk for COVID-19 infection.
While you may only experience mild symptoms, you could still transmit it to a vulnerable person for whom it could be very debilitating or life threatening.
Please make sure you maintain social distancing, perform regular hand hygiene, monitor for symptoms and get tested if you develop any symptoms.
