Jemcae Sutherland didn’t plan on a home birth but that’s exactly what she got when baby Tydus was born at 3.06am today.
The Andergrove mum woke at 2.30am when her waters broke and while her partner Leigh was making a frantic call to Queensland Ambulance Service her urge to push became overwhelming.
“I got up and had a hot shower for a while and then felt like I needed to go to the toilet. I stood up when I felt like I had to push,” Jemcae said.
“The ambulance was telling Leigh to tell me to close my legs and not to push but I couldn’t. It was only two pushes and he was born. I wouldn’t have been in labour for more than half an hour,” she said.
Tydus Reuban was born at 38 weeks weighing 2730g (6lb 2oz) and is a little brother for Trinity Rose, aged one.
Recovering at Mackay Base Hospital Jemcae said while she felt a bit overwhelmed everyone was happy and doing well.
“I wanted a natural birth and I guess being at home with your partner delivering the baby it’s as natural you can get,” she said.
And would she do it again?
“Probably not, I was very nervous. I’m still feeling a bit overwhelmed but I feel really good. Leigh handled it really well too. I think we both did well for a home birth,” she said.
